This is a reconstruction of a Caribbean slave narrative. In it Maureen Warner-Lewis reconstrucs the biography of Archibald Monteath, an enslaved Igbo, who was brought to Jamaica around 1802. Monteath became an active member of the Moravian church and later bought his freedom. Through the biography, Warner-Lewis is able to examine the sociology of slavery from 1750 to the 1860s.
